Bajaj Chetak a well known and iconic name in Indian scooter industry comes again to an electric platform. Bajaj Chetak electric scooter India’s First 100 percent production ready Electric scooter has been launched, established and builds by bike manufacture of India named as Bajaj Auto Pvt. Ltd.
As per Bajaj the looks are inspired by the Vespa petrol scooters. With impressive finish and the quality paint of this scooter it is far better looking with other electric scooters in the market, because this is almost comes with segment benchmarks in the way it looks and feels. Addition to this it’s LED Lights all around and all digital LCD instrument cluster which gives retro looks to the scooter and information for better riding experience.
Bajaj Chetak electric has some interesting stuffs like it comes primarily with a metal body and lesser use of plastic. The frame which is bone of this electric scooter has build by steel metal and which where the battery is placed under the seats. Another thing is this vehicle use the single side trail link suspension rather than Telescopic forks in the front. Where as in rear it has single side shork suspension.
Specification
The chetak’s Electric Motor is unique Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) which is not a hub motor or mid-drive motor. This Motor produces Maximum peak power of 4.08 Kw and Maximum rated power is about 3.8 Kw (5bhp) and a which develops a Torque of 16 Nm. Benefit of using this type of direct Motor is that it reduces the transmission losses and noises, giving direct power to the wheels with help of Gearing system delivering 95 percent of its efficiency.
With top speed of 70 Kmph and the ride quality is little bit on the bouncy side on road joints and little pot holes. There is little hesitation before the torque delivery starts that could be tuned out later, that would make this scooter much nicer to ride.
The Price of Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is start at Rs. 1 lakhs onwards depend on variant you choose. There are two Variants as Urbane and Premium. It has two operational automatic modes i.e. Eco and sport mode. In Eco mode the Bajaj chetak claims maximum range of 95 Km, while it gives range limited up to 85 Km in sport mode in real world conditions and not as per ARAI conditions
Bajaj Chetak electric has a Lithium Ion battery pack which 3Kwh capacity (NCA chemistry) has made by Bosch Germany. It consumes approx of 3 units of electricity for complete charge. Battery has two fans in built for cooling of the battery which is impotent for hot climatic conditions. Battery is IP67 approved, which means this makes the battery completely Dust and Water proof. This scooter also has On board charger usually electric scooters don’t come with this type of chargers, they comes with external chargers. On-Board charger is use for over voltage, under voltage protection.
The battery usually takes five hours to fully charge and it can charge 25 percent in one hour. While it does not come with faster charging support which is drawback of this scooter.
Bajaj Chetak electric Premium Variant comes with metallic gloss paint which s available in Indigo Metallic, Velluto Rosso, Brooklyn Black and Hazelnut in this 4 colour option. Urban variant gets the drum brakes on the front and rear. Whereas premium variant get the disc brake at the front and drum at rear which adds the safety to this electric scooter. For premium variant will have to pay extra 15,000 Rs. for some added features for safety and convenience. Extra Shell for home charger comes free in premium variant.
Bajaj is providing a 3 years / 50,000 Km Standard warranty on this electric scooter. While the battery itself comes with 70,000 Km warranty. First three services comes under the warranty while first service come over 12,000 Km. As per Bajaj the vehicle has been tested across different terrains and weather conditions. According to company Bajaj Chetak will Manufactured at Bajaj Auto’s manufacturing plant which is located in Chakan, Pune.
